I realize I completely failed at updating over the weekend like I said I would in my last post. I should have known better, in fact I even thought to myself after posting that last entry “You know you’re going to be busy and not have time to blog.” but despite my better judgment, I still said I would post.
My birthday was pretty awesome and it pretty much was a weekend-long event. First off on Friday, I splurged on some fast food (other than Subway) for the first time in a while. I got a yummy lobster bite meal at Long John Silvers. Those lobster bites are straight sinful, I tell you! Saturday Night I went to my Dad’s for some yummy stir fry and to get some gifts. I got some Blu-Ray movies, makeup, and a game guide for a game I got from my Mom who gave me my present (on Friday) which was the Final Fantasy XIII Xbox 360 Bundle. She gave it to me early so we could get it all hooked up!
Time to digress a bit with a little nerd explanation. I was one of those that hated on the “Suckbox” when the first one came out. I grew up with the Original Nintendo, had a Super NES and then started a Sega vs. Nintendo war with my brother when I got my Sega Genesis. He continued down the Nintendo franchise with a Nintendo 64 and then eventually a Gamecube and when Sega poofed, I switched to Playstation and then to eventually got a Playstation 2.
So as a family with Playstation and Nintendo.. we didn’t really have any room (or any money) for another console especially one made by ~Microsoft~ with their infamous problems. However, when the Xbox 360 came out both my brother and I secretly wanted one. But then my brother was pretty hyped over the, then just announced, Nintendo Wii. So when it came out after he passed away, it only seemed right to get a Wii since we knew how stoked he would have been about it. Plus there weren’t any games out yet for the PS3 or Xbox 360 that was in my “Must Have” list. That list consists of the big Final Fantasy games or Kingdom Hearts. So of course I had to make a decision when FFXIII came out and I decided it was time to leave Playstation behind and join the Xbox craze.
I have to say I love the system so much. I have it linked to my computer and can now stream my library through the network and out through the tv sound system. Plus I love that shows I record or videos I download on my computer I can now watch on the big screen. And on top of that.. Final Fantasy XIII is amazing. I’m only like 4 chapters in but I love it so much! I missed playing games like this and I’m wondering why I never played FFXII.
I’m excited because I can play tonight. I didn’t get to play the last two nights because I was watching the American Idol finale. Last night’s show was amazing though. I think it was probably the best finale to date performance-wise. Christina Aguilera’s performance was stunning and gives me a little more hope about her upcoming album which from what I’ve heard sounds to be soooo trashy and so below her talent level. The Simon Tribute was awesome. Paula coming back to see him off made me so happy and good lord Simon and Paula’s affection for each other made me melt. I can’t wait for X Factor and I hope he brings Paula on to be a judge. Speaking of.. how is that supposed to work? I saw on Wikipedia that X Factor is on Fox too? Please tell me we won’t have American Idol and X Factor run all year long. When one ends the other begins? PLEASE NO. I get exhausted after watching one whole season of something so time consuming, I like a break between and if I have to pick I’ll pick X Factor. Period. I’m a Simon follower.
Anyway, last week after I blogged I had a bit of ups and downs but it ended up being a great time to self-reflect and remind myself of a few things. I have an overactive imagination that likes to spin stories out of little things that happens. In fact I feel as if I go through my life seeking out the “perfect” story. I’ll say to myself.. “If this happens, that would make for a great story!” So what happens is when something pretty insignificant happens I make it into something incredibly significant. So if a guy remembers me after 20 years of never seeing them or if a guy actually treats me nice or acknowledges my existence I tend to convince myself that I should fall for them because it would make for a good story. NO NO NO! I mean sure, who knows what could happen but I can’t go around with expectations like that. It’s a surefire way to end up disappointed.
So after a brief moment of insanity, I came back to Planet Earth and realized I was being silly and that instead of trying to write my own story, I need to let it write itself! So yeah.. if you take anything from this post.. let it be that. Stop trying to control everything, people! Just let go and see what happens. After all, nobody likes a predictable movie/book.
While I have a free moment at work today I figured I’d post a blog. I’ve been thinking all week about a couple topics to blog on and since they’ve been coming to me more often, I guess I should just post them as they come to mind instead of having huge-ish blog posts, huh? Oh well, I’ll make it quick!
I wanted to start something new for Thursday Blogs. I don’t think this has been done before and if it has, let me know and I will definitely throw you a shout out, but a couple times this past week I thought to myself.. “I would NEVER do that.” and then a lightbulb went off in my head! THINGS I’LL NEVER DO THURSDAY! Hhaha get it? THings THursday? Okay so it’s a bit of a reach, but I thought it might be fun! So I encourage you all to participate and remember they don’t have to be serious or self-revealing “things” they can be anything! I’ll start off with a couple basic ones and maybe next week I’ll do a few less serious ones.
I was going to list a few more today, but I promised to make it quick and I have another topic I want to blog about as well. First off, I was on Facebook the other day and a friend of mine linked an article from Forbes about “Rip Offs”. The main one I wanted to comment on was the one about Sketchers Shape-ups. First off, I will agree the price is pretty ridiculous and I was fortunate to get 45% off my pair but I don’t think the shoes can necessarily be deemed a rip off.
If you bought a pair and expected to go from obese to fit and trim in a few days they’re a rip off. If you bought a pair and only use them to walk around in the office where you sit most of the day, they’re a rip off. HOWEVER, if you do a lot of walking or you’re going on a power shopping trip, LET ME TELL YOU, they WILL shape up your legs. Not to mention they are VERY comfortable shoes and they really do help your posture. So my point? The price might be a rip off, but make sure you read about everything the shoes do and try them on yourself before you deem them a “rip off” because depending on how you view the shoe and it’s purpose, it may or may not BE a rip off.
So that’s about it for now, I will definitely blog again this weekend with the Weekly Wonder for this week! I have a good one in mind too, so we’ll see how that goes! Until then, hope you all are having a good week and don’t forget to share your ‘Things You’ll Never Do Thursday’ today!
